Thousands of years before modern science defined the link between the mind and body, practitioners of Ayurveda, India's system of traditional medicine, were already on the job. Known as the science, or knowledge of life, (Ayur means life, while Veda means knowledge), the practice acknowledges that there is no better way to heal the body than through the mind. As such, being free from illness depends on finding balance within the body. Naturally, the best way to go about finding balance within the body, according to the practice, was through the foods put into it.
As such, Ayurvedic practice involved preparing foods with specific health benefits. (And now we come to the basis of this sumptuous blended tea.) Among the most powerful of these foods were turmeric and ginger. Both are considered to be something of a natural medicine chest, each act as powerful detoxifiers. Both were also prized for their ability to promote digestion and boost the immune system. Thankfully, both are also quite delicious.
