How to Make a London Fog with Tea Pilgrim's Organic Earl Grey

Are you a fan of Earl Grey tea? Do you enjoy the flavour of vanilla? If you answered, “Yes” to these two questions, then you need to know about the London Fog tea beverage. It is made of Earl Grey tea, steamed milk that is frothed, a touch of vanilla extract and a sweetener of some kind if desired.

What’s the big deal? Well, if you didn’t think you could have frothed milk with tea, it’s a big deal. Many associate frothed milk with a cappuccino or latte which traditionally contains coffee only. But if you’re not a coffee drinker or you are looking to change your drinking patterns for health and/or enjoyment, the non-caffeinated frothed beverage is a great alternative to coffee drinks.

Now especially that we’ll soon turn the corner into fall; warm, thick and frothy drinks are perfect for warming the insides and offering an energy boost. If an allergy to regular milk is a problem, most coffee bars offer various forms of “mylk”- plant-based “juice”. Some include, but are not limited to: rice, almond, oat, cashew. Here is something to keep in mind: the frothiness achieved with regular milk is difficult to achieve with mylk alternatives. The main reason for this is the fat content is not as high in plant-based mylks. Still, the warmth and flavour of alternative mylks combined with teas of all kinds are enough to make great drinks any time of the year.

Cheers!

Ingredients

  • 1 Earl Grey tea bag or 1 tbsp loose-leaf Earl Grey tea
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1/2 cup milk (any kind you like)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1–2 tsp honey or your favourite sweetener (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1Brew the tea: Bring 1 cup of water to a boil and pour it over the Earl Grey. Let it steep for 3–5 minutes, depending on how strong you like it, then remove the tea bag or strain out the leaves.
  2. 2Steam the milk: Warm the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat, whisking constantly until it’s steaming and frothy. A milk frother or steam wand works too, if you have one.
  3. 3Add the vanilla: Stir the vanilla extract or syrup into the brewed tea, along with the honey or sweetener if you’re using it.
  4. 4Combine: Pour the steamed milk into the tea, using a spoon to hold back the foam. Then spoon the foam over the top.
  5. 5Serve: Give it a gentle stir, and your London Fog is ready. For an extra aromatic touch, finish it with a light dusting of cinnamon or a sprinkle of lavender.
